Pieces of the world, wornComing soon

The first pendants are real Bergslagen stone, picked up by hand. Right now some of it is turning in a stone tumbler on my desk (yes, I bought one, to make the jewellery myself). The rest went to a lapidary and came back as fifteen heart-shaped stones, each set on a chain. Fifteen exist. That's all there will be.

The Author
Meet Eve Matsdotter
Hi, I'm Eve. I write slow-burn dystopian romantasy about fate, devotion, and hope that's earned the hard way. After losing my father and recovering from tuberculosis, I found my way back to the stories I'd always meant to tell. Dustling is the first.

The stone behind my debut

Built from what the world threw away.
I'm Eve, and I'm writing my debut dystopian romantasy, Dustling. Its world grew from a real blue stone I picked by hand, now a small handful of pendants for the readers who find the story first.
It comes from my father's side of the family. The foundation of my uncle's barn, in Bergslagen.

Made by hand
It's slag. The waste of old iron smelting, the stuff nobody wanted, that held the barn up for generations anyway. A lapidary cuts each piece one at a time, slow and not cheap, so only a handful will ever exist.
I didn't choose it for the book by chance.

Why it's in the book
The thing nobody wanted became the thing everything rests on.
Two years ago I lost my dad, the person who believed in my writing before I did. I went looking for somewhere to put the grief, and found it first in other people's worlds, then in one of my own. They say grief is love with nowhere to go. Dustling is where mine went: a broken world, the people it threw away, and the kind of love that holds on anyway. Even my heroine, Saelynn, is named for a line in a song my dad and I loved, the one we played at his funeral.
So here's what I'd love for you to be part of.
